Auckland Church Fights Back… Kinda

My mate Spankermatic over at Reality Dysfunction writes about a retaliation ad campaign launched in the wake of the NZ Atheist Bus initiative.  The words “desperation” and “hypocrisy” spring swiftly to mind, as they so often do with modern religion.

A minister of the church was quoted as saying: “See?  We can be hip, cool, funny and sexy too!”.  OK, that’s not a real quote, but you just know they’re thinking it.

New Page: Literature

I’ve just added a recommended atheism / evolution reading list, on the new Literature page.  If you’d like to learn more about these topics then the books listed on that page are a good place to start.

What is Atheism?

Seems like a simple question, right?  It is.  The answer is equally simple: An atheist is someone who does not believe in a god.

That’s all.

And that’s a problem.

NZ Atheist Bus, 1st Religious Donation

So, it’s the first day into my donation commitment and the grand total committed thanks to religious and otherwise ignorant commenters comes to:

$31

The biggest contributor was Thomas Christopher, with a grand total of $17, so I’d like to thank him specifically for his support in ignorance.

Being a Saturday I suspect today’s “debating” won’t be as heated as yesterday’s, but I will post tomorrow’s total at around the same time anyway.

NZ Atheist Bus Donation Commitment

Since the Atheist Bus project was announced on Stuff this morning the comments section on the project’s latest blog post started going pretty wild.  The religious crazies were out in full force, with their irrational cannons fully loaded and firing away.  To counter this I’ve committed to donating an additional $1 per uneducated, irrational religious comment posted, and have been joined by at least one other fellow Atheist.

Every morning until the project reaches its (revised) goal of $20,000 I will post the total of the previous day’s religiously-inspired donation amount after I’ve made the donation.

Hopefully it doesn’t get too out of hand, my poor wallet is already cringing at the thought!

Chances of a Random Miracle

Chance is a purely scientific, mathematical concept.

Rational Truth for Goodness’ Sake!

In light of the recently-announced NZ Atheist Bus Campaign I’ve become inspired to start a blog I’ve been meaning to for some time now.  The aim of this blog is simply to encourage freedom of thought and honest exploration of the truth, in the name of goodness and humanitarianism.

I’m a regular guy living in Wellington, New Zealand and I want to try to unlock the shackles of religious dogma and stop the spiritual abuse.

I have a number of posts planned and intend to keep you up to date with the latest Atheist news from around the country.
